Film Photography | Porcupine Mountains, Michigan

Last month, we had the pleasure of traveling to the upper peninsula of Michigan for a family wedding. We went up a day early so that we could have some time to enjoy the local scenery and checked into a lakefront hotel with a gorgeous backyard view of Lake Superior and the Porkies!

The next morning, I was up early and watched the sun rise over Lake Superior, amazed by the strong powerful winds and crashing waves.

Later in the day, we checked out the ceremony site, which was by the stone wall overlooking Lake of the Clouds in the Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park.

Some of our group went on a hike, while my mother-in-law and I strolled the wooden walkway overlooking Lake of the Clouds. We came around the corner to find two artists painting the landscape and it was one of my favorite moments of the weekend. I love watching artists create and they were kind enough to let me take photographs.

These artists, Matt and Laurie Kania, have been visiting the Porkies since 1988! They work with several art galleries and you can find more about their work on their website. Additionally, Matt does map illustration and design. Thanks again, Matt and Laurie, for letting me photograph you!

We fell in love with the Porcupine Mountains and hope to return some day!
